Shonuff and the Glow

I feel like Bruce Leroy at the end of the film Last Dragon in his final fight scene with Shonuff. Shonuff is wiping the floor with Bruce Leroy, but he rallies a bit, only to find Shonuff has somehow leveled up with a superpower, glowing, electricity shooting from hands. He starts going to work on Bruce Leroy again, saying, “When I say who’s the master, you say, ‘Shonuff.’” The climax of the scene occurs when Shonuff begins repeatedly dunking Bruce Leroy’s head in a pool of water after brutally beating, while screaming, “Who’s the master!!?” Nearly drowning, Bruce Leroy does not relent and begins to have a flashback of the words his sensei told him, “There is one place that you have not looked. It is there, only there, that you shall find the master.”  When Shonuff pulls Bruce Leroy’s head out of the water, this time, we see a different Bruce Leroy who is no longer whimpering from getting pulverized. He is strong and assured. As Shonuff yells “Who’s the master!!?” Bruce Leroy confidently replies—I AM. He catches Shonuff’s fist as he attempts to punch Bruce Leroy in the face. Then, he begins to squeeze Shonuff’s fist, causing him to now wither and whimper in pain. The tables have turned. Now Bruce Leroy has the Glow as he commences to whoop Shonuff’s @ss! The scene culminates with him even catching a bullet in his teeth! Once Bruce Leroy realized that the power he sought already resided within himself, he became invincible!

Like Bruce Leroy, life has been relentlessly pummeling me. And I am certain that as I keep living, life will keep happening, so there will undoubtedly be additional blows. But, the way I respond to them will be different because now, I’ve got the Glow

I am beyond grateful for this space I’m in. Healing is freedom. Life really can be beautiful.
